About Tabriz Rugs
Tabriz rugs come from the metropolis of the same name in north-west Persia, one of the oldest weaving centres in the world. They are known for an enormous design range – from the fine medallion rug to the famous Mahi (“fish”) pattern with its all-over Herati repeat.
Knotted from robust wool, sometimes with silk, Tabriz rugs are considered especially versatile and everyday-durable. Their fineness is measured in “Raj”.
