About Ghom (Qom) Rugs
Ghom (also Qom) rugs come from the holy city of Qom, south of Tehran. Although weaving there only began in the 20th century, Ghom rugs are now top-tier – many pieces are knotted in pure silk.
They stand out for a very high knot density, luminous jewel colours and delicate floral, garden or paisley designs. A silk Ghom is both a work of art and an investment.
Characteristics
Origin
Central Persia, the city of Qom (Ghom).
Material
Often pure silk, otherwise finest wool with silk.
Character
Very fine, luminous colours, floral – a collectible.
