Meshgin Mafresch

An exceptional old Meshgin Mafresch from Iran, hand-knotted in natural wool and preserved in good condition. Measuring 95 x 57 cm, this piece belongs to the category of nomadic bags and is a charming collector’s item with strong character. Mafresch bags were originally used in daily nomadic life for transport, storage and, in some cases, even as a cradle. This example still clearly reflects that original function through its shape, side leather handles and sturdy textile construction. The design is powerful and archaic. The warm red field is decorated with geometric star and cross motifs in dark blue, turquoise, ivory, rust orange and deep brown-black. The contrast between the red central field and the turquoise inner border gives the piece a particularly vivid appearance.
