This antique Serapi carpet captivates with its powerful architectural composition and harmonious colour balance. The large scale, strongly stylised central medallion in warm brick red unfolds in a cross like formation across a softly variegated sky blue ground, giving the piece clarity and structure. The pronounced axial symmetry and defined corner spandrels emphasise its monumental character, while finely integrated secondary motifs create movement and depth. Typical of an antique Serapi are the generous drawing, confident lines and a beautifully matured palette of rust red, soft blue, ivory and subtle green accents, resulting in a natural yet striking presence. Within the field and spandrels appear abstract floral forms, angular vines and occasional stylised animal motifs that enhance its individuality and craftsmanship. The broad main border with geometric palmettes and bold vine elements frames the composition with strength and balance. The hand spun wool shows an attractive patina, a supple handle and the gentle softening of colours that only age and use can create, making this carpet a characterful collector piece from northwest Persia, equally compelling in classic interiors or as a refined contrast in contemporary spaces.
