This hand knotted rug originates from Turkey and features a classic Shield Kazak pattern rooted in Caucasian design tradition. The bold cross shaped central field in strong red is framed by dark blue areas and carries a geometric central motif resembling a stylised shield. This composition symbolises protection, strength and order and is among the most powerful motifs of Caucasian rug design, later adopted and interpreted by Anatolian workshops. The strictly geometric ornaments, clear outlines and intentionally archaic drawing give the rug a strong, graphic presence. Side motifs recall stylised plants and protective symbols, while the upper and lower panels feature tree like forms associated with growth and continuity. The finely structured border with small repeating ornaments frames the dominant interior in a balanced way. The colour palette of oxidised red, deep indigo, brown and ivory adds warmth and depth and emphasises the rug’s authentic character.
