The major city and most famous knotting centre of southern Persia, Kirman, has been renowned for its hand-knotted Persian carpets since the great Safavid dynastic era of the 16th and 17th centuries. Under the Qajar Shahs of the 19th century and inspired by master-weavers like Hossein Kirmani, the Kirman carpet entered a new phase of exotic beauty, incorporating motifs of paradise birds and the tree of life. These have since established themselves as some of the most favoured and refined designs of all Persian carpets. In this exquisitely beautiful hand-knotted Persian carpet, the medallion structure, adorned with paradise birds and the tree of life, is expressed in the most graceful Kirman dye shades. Pastels intermingle with spare accent colours, creating a magical tonal harmony. The naturally lustrous wool from the herds pastured around Kirman adds an additional sensual dimension to this outstanding connoisseur item.
