An extremely appealing item from one of the most ancient and renowned knotting centres of the Mughal Empire, site of the Taj Mahal palace, in which a graceful compartmental 'Garden' field design of panelled sections each containing a delightfully ornamented mihrab prayer arch is expressed in a refined visual approach, which reveals much of the distinctive flair of the most skilful weavers from the town of Gwalior who are responsible for the finest Agra examples in the luxurious and much-prized satin pile texture. The combination of such an appealing design approach, the sumptuous lustre of the satin pile and the deservedly famous gem-like colours of the top Agra category make for a work of memorable and inexhaustible beauty.
