Originating from the remote knotting region of Kars in the extreme east of Anatolia, this magnificent rug in very good condition demonstrates both the proximity of the major Caucasian weaving district of Karabagh, and the shared Armenian cultural heritage of these two renowned knotting centres. The dramatically heraldic design of the central field is a superb rendition of the greatest 19th Century Karabagh composition, executed in the barbarically beautiful colouring for which the finest Nidge Kars work is renowned. An item of major artistic merit.
