A tent rug of powerful presence knotted by the Belouch nomads from the remote tribal mountain pasturages of western Afghanistan. It is of particular merit for its definitive demonstration of how a design of apparent simplicity can achieve an undeniable monumentality in the hands of a master weaver. The field contains diverse stylised geometric motifs which are representative of floral forms, arranged into a coherent composition with all the panache for which the Belouch are renowned. Superbly lustrous high-mountain wool and wonderfully rich, luminous colours contribute still more to this item's outstanding achievement.
