A highly unusual and most attractive nomadic tent rug knotted by a long-renowned Baluch sub-tribe who pasture their herds in the remote Adraskand valley in the west of Afghanistan. Of particular note is the focal design of diamond lozenges delineated in a radiating scheme of concentric latch-hook ribbons, a composition usually associated with the Mushwani Baluch and here, most probably, the result of tribal intermarriage. The beautifully muted palette and naturally lustrous pile wool characteristic of the Adraskand group give the design its memorable individuality.
