The renowned master workshop rugs from the ancient Kurdish knotting region of north west Persia have for more than two centuries stood among the most soughtafter and recognisable of the classic Persian categories. Of unique structure, with their firm, extremely hard-wearing texture being achieved by male weavers adept at beating down each knot row to its ultimate degree, the finest Bidjars also almost invariably employ the minutely-detailed herati floral repeat so exquisitely rendered in this lovely example. A measure of the item's quality is revealed in the manner in which the precision with which the herati pattern is expressed produces that gemlike intensity of colour and ornament for which connoisseurs of the Bidjar group are always in search. A work of definitive master craftsmanship and rich, wholly traditional Persian beauty.
