Qashqai are nomads from southern Iran from the Shiraz region. They belong to the Turkic peoples because they probably migrated from the Caucasus in the 13th and 14th centuries. Their language is a Turkic dialect. They are considered the richest Persian nomads.
The extended families of about 20 people move from the north to the west in October and back to the north in April. Because of transportation, construction and dismantling, the horizontal knotters are limited in width. The exception is the sedentary Qashqais, who weave larger rugs. The dyeing and knotting is done by the women. Kashkuli usually extremely fine pieces and come from a secondary tribe that nomadized northwest of Shiraz and also partially settled.
