This rare Manastir kilim rug measuring 168 x 120 cm is an exceptional example of Caucasian flatwoven textile art and belongs to a weaving tradition highly admired by collectors around the world. Manastir kilims are among the rarest and most sought after historical kilim types and appear significantly less frequently on the market than many other Caucasian flatweaves. Original examples are often found in smaller sizes, which makes a piece of this dimension particularly desirable. Literature dedicated specifically to Manastir weaving traditions remains relatively limited and this contributes further to the mysterious reputation surrounding these textiles. The well known publication "Manastir Kilims" by Erhard Stöbe remains one of the most important references for collectors and researchers interested in this field. This handwoven kilim immediately captures attention through its bold visual structure and striking geometry. The main field is dominated by large repeating diamond and star motifs arranged almost kaleidoscopically throughout the composition. Sharp zigzag patterns create movement and visual energy across the surface. Such compositions are frequently described as Eye Dazzler designs and are highly appreciated within Balkan and Caucasian weaving traditions because of their visual rhythm and powerful decorative impact. Historical examples often contain symbolic elements associated with protection, spirituality and tribal identity. Rich shades of red combine beautifully with ivory, blue, beige and natural tones to create a vibrant and balanced palette. Smaller star motifs inside the larger medallions provide additional detail and visual depth. The strong geometry and energetic composition create an unexpectedly contemporary appearance that works exceptionally well within both traditional and modern interiors. Due to its rarity, very good condition and strong decorative presence this Manastir kilim offers considerable collector appeal and remarkable personality. Link
