This remarkable Caucasian kilim most likely originates from the Shirvan or Dagestan region in present day Azerbaijan. The field is structured in a disciplined grid of octagonal compartments, each containing star motifs, rosettes and intricate geometric details. This type of ornamentation is typical for Southern Caucasian flatweaves.
The colour palette combines deep browns and earth tones with vibrant reds, strong indigo and glowing gold accents. The result is a textile that radiates warmth and visual dynamism. The multiple border sections display classic Caucasian rhythm and geometry, including interlaced diamonds and small symbolic motifs. The Cyrillic inscription at the top is a notable historic marker. Such writing usually dates to the Soviet era and was used for cataloging or inventory purposes. It adds cultural and historical depth to the piece. The kilim is tightly woven using traditional handspun wool. It works beautifully as a decorative wall hanging, a distinctive floor accent or a collectible item for connoisseurs of authentic Caucasian textile art.
