A strikingly individual Gabbeh rug from the Fars province in southern Persia with a highly authentic nomadic character and remarkable decorative presence. This piece beautifully reflects the artistic freedom of traditional Gabbeh weaving, where expression and spontaneity are often more important than strict symmetry. The softly coloured natural wool field is centred around a large diamond shaped medallion extending along a vertical axis, surrounded by stylised geometric motifs resembling abstract plants or protective tribal symbols. Warm shades of red, rust and brown create a vivid contrast against the undyed wool background, giving the rug both warmth and graphic clarity. Particularly attractive are the subtle abrash variations and natural tonal changes of the handspun wool, features that are highly appreciated in older Gabbeh rugs made with traditional vegetable dyes. The broad border frames the composition with strong visual rhythm and enhances the almost archaic simplicity of the design. Older Gabbeh rugs of this type have become increasingly sought after for their authenticity, decorative impact and strong sense of personality. A timeless tribal rug equally suited to contemporary interiors and classic spaces.
