A strikingly rustic example of one of the best-known Gabbeh weavings from the province of Fars in southern Persia, known as Gabbeh, which refers to the densely knotted construction and impressionistic design approach of a particular type of rug woven by the nomads of the region. Characteristic of the older examples of this type are the soft shades of old plant colours and the extensive use of undyed wool, which have become increasingly sought after for their strong decorative appeal and charming 'personality'.
