Knotted by Bakhtiari weavers from the Chahar Mahal village region of central Persia, where the main Bakhtiari tribes have settled since the 19th Century, this beautiful item employs a powerfully rendered central medallion composition which is superbly expressed in the slightly angular, spare manner for which the Bakhtiari are renowned. The runners of the Bakhtiari have always retained a totally distinctive and immediately recognisable visual character which has a perennial appeal for connoisseurs of Persian carpet art, and is impressively encapsulated in the present example. The bold design woth a triple medallion is superbly brought to life in the rich and vibrant Bakhtiari dye shades, while the inherent equilibrium of the composition as a whole is an intrinsic element in the work's wonderfully unified decorative impact of this runner carpet.
