This hand-knotted runner originates from the Baluch region, home to a tribal people with a centuries-old weaving tradition in western Afghanistan. Typical of their work is the deep, almost mystical colour palette dominated by dark red, blue and black – clearly visible in this piece. The central medallion design is powerfully rhythmic and features the stylised trees of life and octagonal motifs characteristic of Baluch rugs.
