A square rug of immense presence, woven by the Balouch nomads from the remote tribal areas of the mountain pastures of western Afghanistan. It is of particular value because it definitively demonstrates how a seemingly simple pattern can achieve undeniable monumentality in the hands of a master weaver. The field contains various stylised geometric motifs, representing floral forms, arranged into a coherent composition with all the panache for which the Baluch are renowned. The beautifully lustrous high mountain wool and the wonderfully rich, vibrant colours contribute even more to the outstanding performance of this Baluch rug.
