This Sholamzar Bakhtiari kilim rug measuring 288 x 165 cm is a remarkable example of authentic Persian tribal weaving and combines traditional craftsmanship with a visually striking geometric composition. The Sholamzar area belongs to the Bakhtiari weaving regions of southwestern Iran and has long been associated with tribal flatweaves and strong nomadic artistic traditions. The Bakhtiari people are among the most significant tribal groups of Persia and are admired for their durable textiles and expressive visual language. Historically these woven pieces accompanied nomadic families on seasonal journeys between mountain and valley pastures. Weaving traditions, symbolic motifs and colour knowledge were often passed from one generation to another and remain an important part of Bakhtiari cultural identity. This handwoven kilim immediately attracts attention through its strong structure and balanced composition. The elongated field is dominated by three large diamond shaped medallions arranged vertically across the rug. Smaller tribal motifs appear within these forms and create additional visual rhythm. Such abstract symbols frequently represented protection, fertility, harmony or connections with family life and the surrounding landscape. One of the great attractions of authentic nomadic weaving lies in its individuality. Slight irregularities and small variations reveal the human hand behind the weaving process and create genuine character. The colour palette is exceptionally harmonious with deep shades of blue and navy contrasting beautifully against warm brown, sand and natural wool colours. Cream accents provide visual movement and depth. Traditional vegetable dyes add richness and subtle tonal variations that synthetic colours rarely achieve. Collectors and interior designers often appreciate vegetable dyed kilims because they possess warmth and authenticity while ageing beautifully over time. The repeating tribal borders frame the composition elegantly and reinforce its visual balance. Thanks to its flatwoven construction this Sholamzar Bakhtiari kilim rug works beautifully in larger interiors, loft spaces and contemporary settings where individuality and strong decorative character are appreciated.
