Sofreh

This sofreh kilim from Afghanistan belongs to the category of nomadic weavings. It is semi-old and was made from wool. In very good condition, this rug presents itself as a decorative object. The design of the kilim is striking and traditional. The base colour is a warm orange, in the centre of which are two vertical lines with symmetrical zigzag or arrow patterns. These patterns are reminiscent of stylised plants or trees growing upwards. The edge of the rug is richly decorated with geometric ornaments in different colours such as black, red and green. This border complements the central structure and gives the rug an artistic frame. The colours, mainly shades of orange, black and brown, harmonise with each other and reflect the nomadic culture from which the rug originates.
