Maymeh rugs originate from Josheghan and are sometimes also called Maymeh in newer terms, is located in north central Iran. The town of Josheghan is one of a serveral villages that are well known for knotting wool rugs of exceptionally good quality. Tribal people in the region have been working as skilled weavers of wool rugs for serveral hundreds of years. It is not uncommon for a weaver to be totally dedicated to a single rug for months and sometimes years. This results in wool rugs of the highest quality, but very limited quantity of rugs executed. Josheghan rugs are woven in both village and workshop settings, with those woven in the smaller villages considered to be of superior quality.
