Consistently numbered among the decorative and most prestigious of Central Persian workshop items, and today seldom encountered on the open market, the Mir Sarouk runners knotted in the Persian province of Arak belong to the most ancient heritage of Persian knotting art. As this beautiful example in the classic Mir- Boteh composition illustrates, Sarouks are especially favoured for the clarity and precision of their draughtsmanship, the immaculate balance of their designs, and their exquisite palette of glowing, harmoniously mellow colours. The closeness of the knotting and the outstanding quality of the pile wool in this specimen of the group makes it especially notable. A work of great sophistication and elegance, in the highest echelon of classical Persian runner (side carpet) knotting. In generally good condition for age, edges a litte worn and fringes uneven. The pile is in good condition and the runner has been professionally cleaned.
