This antique Fethiye rug from around 1920 is a beautiful example of traditional Anatolian weaving culture from southwestern Turkey. Fethiye, historically known as Megri, developed a distinctive weaving tradition with richly coloured village rugs and expressive decorative motifs. Measuring 74 x 70 cm, this compact piece carries remarkable visual presence. The vivid red field is framed by a dark floral border filled with stylised blossoms and symbolic motifs. The central composition appears almost spontaneous and artistic, giving the rug warmth and personality. Rich shades of red, cream, black, olive and gold create a striking balance. Its dense knotting and robust wool construction have allowed the rug to age beautifully over more than a century. Small antique Anatolian rugs such as this are increasingly appreciated as decorative collector pieces, wall hangings or charming accents in interiors seeking authenticity and character.
