This exceptionally rare Persian silk rug from Abyaneh near Kashan belongs among the most fascinating examples of early Persian weaving art and possesses an almost museum like presence. Abyaneh, also known as Abbane, is regarded as one of the historical origins of refined Kashan weaving tradition. Long before Kashan became world famous, remarkable carpets with distinctive ornamentation and fine silk weaving were already produced in the small workshops of Abyaneh. This rare piece woven entirely in silk is estimated to date from approximately 1850 to 1900 and bears the Farsi signature Aba Esmail Yahudi at the upper centre. The highly unusual composition alone makes this rug an extraordinary rarity. Within an elegant mihrab inspired architectural frame unfolds a rich floral design featuring vases, blossoms, and flowing vines reminiscent of early Persian prayer rugs and courtly silk textiles. Particularly captivating is the exceptional colour palette of this rug. The light ivory field is combined with vibrant turquoise and sky blue tones together with deep aubergine, purple, wine red, and delicate accents of rose and dark blue. This unusual almost luminous combination gives the rug remarkable artistic expression and visual intensity. The wide border filled with richly ornamented floral motifs frames the composition beautifully and enhances its strong decorative impact. Pure silk creates spectacular luminosity and a refined almost painterly surface quality. The rug shows large tears and visible signs of wear, yet these condition issues do not diminish its historical significance and rarity as an early Persian silk weaving. On the contrary, the wear further emphasises the authenticity and remarkable history of this exceptional piece. An extremely rare and important Persian silk rug with unique artistic presence and extraordinary colour harmony.
