This exceptional Bergendeh rug from the Tuisarkhan district near Hamadan in western Iran represents one of the most admired forms of Persian village weaving. The small rural weaving community of Bergendeh enjoys an excellent reputation among collectors and is often regarded as the source of some of the finest and most consistently crafted West Persian village rugs. These rugs are appreciated for their craftsmanship, excellent materials and strong artistic integrity. This classic example beautifully demonstrates the balanced and elegant design language for which Bergendeh rugs are renowned. The pile is hand knotted from Persian wool on a cotton foundation, giving the rug both durability and a pleasing tactile character. The deep navy field is centred around a striking lozenge medallion with stylised anchor motifs that create a strong visual presence. The open spacious field is complemented by floral corner elements, creating an elegant balance between simplicity and detail. A carefully composed border frames the design subtly without overwhelming the composition. The lively palette of red, rust, ivory and deep blue tones remains entirely faithful to traditional West Persian village weaving. A highly collectable and visually compelling rug with genuine artistic and decorative significance.
