The superb Kurdish rugs of Bidjar have, since at least the 19th Century, represented a totally unique and immediately recognisable type of high quality West Persian work, most readily identified on structural grounds from their extremely dense, heavy "handle" and quite remarkable durability, as well as their almost invariable use of the gerus decorative scheme. In this quite exceptionally fine specimen of the type, every minute detail of the classic gerus composition is picked out with brilliant intensity and definition, creating a work of extremely noteworthy craftsmanship and a memorable jewel-like beauty. This Bidjar was still knotted in the actual town of Bidjar and is therefore very interesting for the collector.
