This Belouch salt bag originates from western Afghanistan or the eastern Iranian border region and is a semi-old piece less than 25 years old. The front is made of densely hand-knotted wool, while the back is woven in sturdy kilim technique. A bold diamond motif in red and petrol dominates the centre, surrounded by serrated lines and traditional protective symbols. The composition is framed by contrasting borders in dark blue, red and white. The wool has a beautiful natural sheen and highly attractive colours. The piece is in excellent condition and was most likely also used as the outer face of a nomadic bag. Small irregularities reflect its handmade character.
