This fascinating Baluch prayer rug was created by the Adreskani sub tribe of the Baluch nomads from western Afghanistan. Like all weavings of this ancient tribal group, it is knotted entirely from the finest local wool and presents the traditional mihrab prayer field in a highly distinctive and original manner. The most intriguing feature is the stylised depiction of mosque architecture in the upper part of the field, a rare decorative device used by only a few Baluch tribes and highly prized by collectors. The deep dark field beautifully highlights the delicate white lines and red ornaments. The rug is in good condition with gentle signs of age and works perfectly as a collector’s piece or striking wall hanging.
