This exceptionally decorative small Yalameh miniature rug from Southwestern Persia possesses remarkable visual presence despite its very compact size. Attractive Yalameh rugs in such an unusually small format are rarely encountered today and hold particular collector appeal. Traditionally, the Yalameh weavers lived a wandering, almost nomadic existence between the Fars province and the Bakhtiari regions of Central Persia. Their highly regarded weavings combine influences from the Qashqa'i nomads with the geometric traditions of Bakhtiari village rugs, resulting in a distinctive style full of character and vibrant ornamentation. This fine miniature piece features a bold geometric central medallion in vivid blue, red, and ivory tones surrounded by stylised floral motifs and tribal inspired ornaments. The almost graphic precision of the drawing together with the luminous colours gives the rug exceptional decorative impact despite its miniature dimensions. Particularly striking is the contrast between the light ivory field and the saturated blue and red tones of the medallion and border. The high quality wool displays the rich lustre typical of fine Yalameh weavings and creates lively surface movement. The rug shows a small repaired abrasion within the inner border, executed very harmoniously and with minimal impact on the overall decorative appearance. Small pieces such as this were often produced as decorative nomadic weavings or practical tribal objects and are increasingly difficult to find today. Ideal as a decorative accent, wall piece, or colourful detail bringing authentic Persian nomadic character into an interior. A rare and highly characterful collector’s piece with timeless geometric elegance.
