The Ziegler carpet was designed around 1890 by an Anglo-Persian company. Based on European taste and with Persian knotting, a new type of carpet was created. Today's Ziegler carpets are no longer knotted in Persia but mainly in Afghanistan. The weavers are very familiar with the materials and the weaving process. Interestingly, the carpets are transported from Afghanistan to Pakistan and washed there. These carpets often show Pakistan as their country of origin, although they are knotted in Afghanistan.
