An exceptionally rare Meschad Shish Kelani Persian rug of remarkable elegance and outstanding craftsmanship. This large scale rug originates from a specialised weaving workshop in the famous carpet city of Mashhad in northeastern Persia and reflects the finest traditions of Persian carpet weaving. A particularly striking feature is the magnificent camel border with intricate silk inlays that create a refined shimmering effect depending on the light. The central medallion is also executed entirely in pure silk, adding impressive depth and precision to the richly ornamented composition. The ivory field is densely filled with floral motifs, arabesques and flowing vines, giving the rug a luxurious yet harmonious appearance. Its sophisticated palette of deep red, blue, beige and soft golden accents recalls the grand carpets once produced for Persian aristocratic interiors. The fine knotting and combination of high quality wool and silk create a beautifully textured surface with subtle light reflections. A highly decorative collector’s piece for elegant interiors and admirers of classical Persian weaving.
