Very beautiful silk carpet from Srinagar with silk pile knotted on cotton with arrangement of garden field designs also called Hamdan or Chesti. Some of these compartments have a floral or even a mihrab design which has been executed very cleanly with the beautiful color choice of the Kashmiris. The exquisite tree of life ornamentation alludes to the symbols of eternity and paradise. This pattern was first woven in the 16th century during the Safavid dynasty and was reserved for Mughal rulers only.
