An exceptionally beautiful and large scale Shahrebaft rug from the famous weaving region of Hamadan in Western Persia. This impressive hand knotted rug was woven before 1979 and belongs to the rare group of high quality Sherekat Fars rugs, admired for their refined craftsmanship, exceptional wool quality and authentic natural dyes. The villages around Hamadan have been among the most important centres of Persian village weaving for centuries and are renowned for producing rugs with remarkable durability, rich texture and harmonious colour palettes. This piece was woven using lustrous long staple local wool traditionally hand spun in the villages of the region. The warm earthy tones of beige, rust red, dark blue and soft gold give the rug an elegant yet calm and inviting appearance. Particularly fascinating is the highly intricate all over pattern covering the field, beautifully structured by the large central medallion and the finely detailed corner spandrels. The elaborate floral border frames the composition harmoniously and enhances the rug’s timeless Persian elegance. Its beauty has been further highlighted through careful professional cleaning, allowing the subtle colours and delicate drawing to appear especially vivid. On today’s rug market it has become increasingly rare to find an authentic Shahrebaft rug of this quality, size and condition. Measuring 357 x 267 cm, this rug is perfectly suited for grand living spaces, libraries, sophisticated business interiors or classic homes with a warm atmosphere. A remarkable collector’s piece with timeless elegance and outstanding craftsmanship.
