Varamin. This city, south of Tehran on the edge of the Dasht-i-Kevir salt desert. The Waramin carpet, often in runner format, shows a lot of lustre with a medium-high pile. But its colours are usually quite dark. Its red is characterised by a peculiar bluish nuance that is very appealing to the eye. The pattern is varied, but mostly small-flowered. Here is a Waramin (also known as Veramin) rug in room-size format in excellent quality. The warp and weft are made of cotton, the pile of pure new wool.
