This antique Feraghan silk rug from Iran measuring 200 × 135 cm is an exceptional collector’s piece of Persian master weaving and is dated to approximately 1880. Entirely crafted from natural silk, this rug belongs to the rare surviving examples of antique Persian silk carpets and carries remarkable rarity value. Feraghan is regarded as one of the most respected weaving regions of Persia and is known for elegant compositions, balanced proportions and exceptional technical execution. Impressive antique silk Feraghan rug from Iran. At first sight this piece captivates through its presence, refinement and the distinctive character that only generations of matured natural silk can develop. Beautifully preserved including fringes and pile, the rug presents itself in exceptional condition for its age. Over time the silk lustre has not diminished but has developed further, creating the rich depth and changing reflections for which great antique silk carpets are admired. Depending on the angle of light, warm ivory, deep burgundy, dark brown tones and delicate sky blue highlights emerge across the surface. Particularly striking is the depiction of the Tree of Life surrounded by beautiful floral ornamentation. Within Persian symbolism the Tree of Life traditionally represents growth, continuity and the connection between earth and heaven. Around this central composition unfolds a refined arrangement of blossoms, flowing vines and elegant decorative forms which give the carpet extraordinary visual depth. The magnificent border frames the field beautifully and complements the composition with balance and refinement. Detailed views reveal exceptional knot density and drawing precision characteristic of master weaving. The rug displays beautiful colour and remains in very good condition. Preserved fringes, attractive pile and the matured silk surface further underline the special nature of this piece. As a rarity, this carpet is equally suitable as a prestigious interior statement and as an important collector’s textile with strong historical and artistic appeal.
