This Persian Bidgeneh rug belongs to one of the most highly regarded weaving traditions of north western Iran. From Goltogh through to the Bidjar region, Bidgeneh weaving has long been appreciated for its precision, balance and outstanding craftsmanship. This particular example demonstrates beautifully why Bidgeneh rugs are sought after not only as decorative pieces but also as collectible works of textile art. Measuring 200 × 133 cm, the rug offers versatile placement possibilities while maintaining a strong visual identity. The composition is defined by a structured geometric layout framed by multiple detailed borders. The large diamond shaped central composition with a smaller medallion creates visual depth and remarkable symmetry. One of the strengths of this rug lies in the interaction between order and detail. From a distance the design appears calm and balanced, while up close an impressive level of intricate ornamentation becomes visible. The colour palette is centred around warm reds, terracotta tones, beige and dark natural accents, giving the rug a timeless and elegant atmosphere. Crafted from natural wool and cotton, the rug combines durability with a refined touch. Dense knotting allows excellent definition and contributes to the long lifespan for which Persian rugs are renowned. Bidgeneh rugs have earned a reputation among collectors for combining the structural strength associated with Bidjar rugs with a more delicate and refined visual language. This piece is an excellent representative of that tradition and a remarkable example of Persian weaving culture.
