This impressive Bakhtiari carpet originates from the Chahar Mahal village region of central Persia, where the main Bakhtiari tribes have been settled since the nineteenth century. It features the most distinctive and characteristic of traditional Bakhtiari designs, a compartmental garden layout in which each panel represents a stylised depiction of flowers, trees and vegetal motifs. The slightly angular and restrained drawing is a hallmark of Bakhtiari weaving and gives the carpet a strong, timeless presence. Measuring over six by four metres, this exceptional size greatly enhances the visual impact of the design and allows the full richness of the Bakhtiari colour palette to unfold. The composition is finely articulated and well balanced throughout, resulting in a powerful and highly collectible example of this celebrated tradition.
