Yazd

This magnificent antique Yazd rug from Persia dates from around 1920 and stands out through its exceptionally elegant colour palette and remarkably well preserved condition. The luminous red field creates a striking contrast with the finely detailed border in shades of blue, turquoise, beige and soft rose tones. At the centre lies a large star shaped medallion filled with intricate floral ornamentation, giving the rug an almost palace like grandeur. Particularly impressive is the extraordinary richness of detail throughout the composition. Flowing arabesques, floral vines and delicate decorative motifs cover the entire rug and create remarkable visual depth and harmony. The border appears refined and balanced while perfectly framing the vibrant central field. Yazd rugs belong among the finer classical Persian carpets and are admired for their high quality weave, balanced proportions and especially soft wool. This example has a wonderfully smooth texture and a very refined level of craftsmanship that reflects the quality of the weaving workshop.
