An antique Kazak carpet from the Caucasus region with a powerful geometric presence and exceptionally good pile height for its age. The deep blue field is dominated by bold diamond shaped medallions and diagonal ornamental bands, giving the carpet a strong archaic character typical of early Caucasian weaving. The vivid reds, blues, ivory and ochre tones originate from natural vegetable dyes and, combined with the clear geometric structure, create an intense almost graphic visual impact. Particularly striking is the wide border with stylised star and floral motifs, framing the field with strength while emphasising the nomadic origins of the piece. Kazak rugs are among the most important Caucasian carpets and were traditionally woven from durable natural wool, making them highly valued for their longevity, expressive symbolism and decorative strength. The fringes are slightly loose in places, otherwise the carpet remains in remarkably authentic and well preserved condition. A highly characterful antique collector’s piece with strong visual presence.
