A wonderful kilim with the sharply drawn geometric arrangement that characterises the luminous field of this piece embodies the well-known and sought-after design tradition of the Shirvan mountain region in the Eastern Caucasus. The field scheme of heraldic diamond fields in an "endlessly repeated" composition is subtly emphasised vertically by the lateral rectilinear cartouches that balance each end of the central design. An intricate, immaculately woven border reinforces the jewel-like impression conveyed by this charming work. Small stain in the lower section of the kilim. Made in Central Anatolia according to the plans of a Caucasian master weaver.
