The nomads and villagers who inhabit the surrounding desert province of Fars in South West Persia, of which it is the capital, has given its name to this type of striking tribal rug which is knotted by the Fars pastoral nomads who bring their finest works for barter in the great Shiraz bazaar. The long-stapled, naturally lustrous native pile wool, overtly symbolic tribal design and carefully-harmonized, locally-prepared dye colours, all testify in this lovely item to a Kurdi of notable quality and that uniquely individual character which is the hallmark of traditional Persian nomad rugs of incontrovertible authenticity.
