This hand knotted nomadic rug originates from the Shiraz region in southern Persia and was woven by Qashqai tribes. The rug is made of hand spun wool with a wool on wool structure and displays the strong and lively colour palette typical for this region. The deep blue field is structured by three large diamond shaped medallions along the central axis, a characteristic design element of many Shiraz rugs. The field is richly filled with symbolic depictions of animals, birds, stylised trees as well as numerous small blossoms and geometric ornaments. These motifs reflect the close relationship of the nomadic weavers with nature and their symbolic visual language. The warm red corner areas create a vivid contrast to the dark blue field and are framed by a finely drawn border with traditional ornaments. The rug is knotted with wool on wool and features the robust and durable pile typical for nomadic rugs. Shiraz rugs are traditionally produced by nomadic tribes in southern Iran and are known for their spontaneous ornamentation, strong colours and expressive compositions. Each rug is unique and represents an authentic piece of nomadic weaving tradition with strong decorative presence.
