An exceptional modern Zollanvari Gabbeh from Persia featuring an almost optical abstract composition full of rhythm and movement. The design recalls a fragmented checkerboard or digital pixel structure, combining traditional Persian weaving techniques with a surprisingly contemporary visual language. Strong black and white contrasts along the borders create a bold graphic frame, while the centre unfolds into vibrant fields of red, pink, blue, yellow, green and orange arranged in rhythmic blocks. Particularly fascinating is the intentional visual distortion within the pattern, giving the rug depth and a dynamic almost painterly quality. Small ornamental rows placed across the centre subtly reference the traditional nomadic vocabulary of classic Gabbeh rugs and create an intriguing dialogue between heritage and modern abstraction. The handspun wool gives the surface warmth, softness and beautiful natural tonal variation. Zollanvari is internationally celebrated for blending ancient Persian tribal weaving traditions with modern artistic design, and this rug captures that philosophy perfectly. A highly distinctive collector’s piece as well as a striking contemporary design rug with strong artistic presence.
