A very attractive small Van Kilim from Eastern Anatolia with beautifully soft colours and authentic character. This handwoven flatweave combines warm shades of red, beige, cream, brown, rose and muted golden tones, giving the piece a calm yet highly decorative appearance. At the centre is a striking geometric motif with stylised hooked forms and traditional tribal symbols characteristic of kilims from the Lake Van region. The design feels both bold and primitive while remaining soft and harmonious due to the naturally aged vegetable dyed colours. This balance between strong geometry and gentle tones is one of the reasons antique Anatolian kilims remain highly appreciated by collectors and interior designers alike. The small protective motifs within the border add rhythm and movement to the composition. Particularly beautiful are the original fringes which further enhance the authenticity of the piece. The kilim remains in original condition with a natural patina that only older handwoven textiles can develop over time. Van kilims originate from the culturally rich eastern regions of Turkey and were traditionally woven by nomadic and semi nomadic families. They are known for their symbolic motifs, geometric clarity and highly individual artistic expression. (trc-leiden.nl) Thanks to its smaller size, this kilim works beautifully as a decorative accent in an entrance hall, beside a bed, over furniture or even as a wall hanging. Its soft and balanced palette allows it to integrate naturally into both modern and traditional interiors. A charming and authentic Anatolian collector’s piece with genuine warmth and craftsmanship.
