A rare and outstanding specimen of classical beauty in perfect condition of the most elevated technical achievement from the ancient central Persian city of Kashan, origin of many of the greatest Persian masterpiece carpets made during the 16th and 17th Centuries, under the patronage of the Safavid dynasty of Persian Emperors. The design of this notably fine and superbly accomplished example details an exquisite mir boteh arrangement within which delightful bird forms are variously depicted, perched amidst the luxuriant foliage, such an approach being from the direct lineage of the brilliant late Qajar Kashani master weaver Dabir Senayeh, who in turn drew inspiration from the classic Garden of Paradise rugs of 17th Century Persia A rare aspect of this exquisite specimen is its employment of the inlaid silk knotting technique, in which diverse ornaments are given a gem-like emphasis through being chased with accents of glistening Caspian silk, this producing a memorably radiant effect when combined with the more subtle inner lustre of the full silk pile of the work. The overall calibre of this item suggests it may have been created to a demanding private commission, to the highest technical and artistic specifications offered by the most exclusive private master workshops of Kashan.
