This superb Kashan Persian master-workshop arabesque item belongs to the design tradition of Kashan established in the 16th Century under the patronage of the Safavid Shahs. Knotted in the renowned palette of rich, glowing colours which are an identifying feature of the finest Kashan work, the central composition consists of a wonderfully fluent allover scheme of gracefully scrolling arabesque tendrils adorned with large Abbasi blossom-palmettes, delicate rosettes, small flowerheads and elegantly curvilinear lanceolate leaves, to create the resplendent effect which represents the most sophisticated classical Persian concept of idealised natural beauty. Flawlessly-crafted in the glossy, high lustre wool of the highest Kashan quality, this is an item of timeless artistic achievement, for the most discriminating taste.
