An extremely appealing Agra carpet "jail carpet" from one of the most ancient and renowned knotting centres of the Mughal Empire, site of the Taj Mahal palace, in which a graceful allover arrangement of stylised flowers, leaves and stems and animal depictions drawn from the classic decorative repertoire of Persia is expressed in a refined visual approach, all set within an elegant border composition. This lovely design is picked out in the delicate Agra colours, these being enriched subtly by the high gloss lustre of the pile surface.
