This magnificent item displays an enchantingly graceful allover field design in the high floral tradition of the Royal Kashan carpets knotted under the patronage of Shah Abbas the Great in late 16th Century Persia. Against and eloquently pale background, the spacious scheme of flowing stem-tendrils is enriched by a wonderfully varied series of Abbasi palmettes and elegant lanceolate leaves. A glowing border arrangement of further varieties of stylised floral ornamentation possesses a jewel-like beauty which completes this outstanding specimen of Oriental knotting mastery with appropriate splendour.
