Unique hand knotted Malayer rug from western Iran with a rare figurative medallion. At the centre appear stylised figures of a man and a woman surrounded by dense floral ornamentation with trees, blossoms and traditional village motifs. The dark ground highlights the light figures and the warm red and rose tones. Typical for Malayer weaving are the detailed fillers and the clear architectural medallion layout. The rug has a relatively deep soft pile and was knotted around 1910 to 1920. A hanging fixture is attached on the back allowing the piece to be displayed as a decorative wall rug. An exceptional collector piece with a rare figurative design and strong character of Persian folk art.
